HE/SHE/THEY

Home >> Stories >> Tyler

I was born and grew up in South Texas. My house was never particularly religious, but my dad has always been a real macho cowboy conservative type.

I always knew I was different, but it took me a long time to face the mirror and come out even to myself. Years after I had my first gay relationship, I was still convinced I was only in it for the attention. But what changed that was finding community.

I met my partner online, and found support and acceptance, and so started a journey of loving myself that hasn't ended. I moved to Cedar City two years ago to be with him and his son, and I've never been better.

It's difficult sometimes feeling like we're isolated, having our pride flags stolen from our yard, but I know that there is community here and we will all be stronger when we come together and refuse to hide. I'm still figuring myself and my gender identity out, but it's been so comforting to do that with the love and support from the folks at Pride of Southern Utah.
